I used to live in Southern MD, so a trip to Waldorf never seemed very far for me. Even still - a rum distillery right in your backyard just might be worth the trek despite the (usually) terrible traffic into St. Mary's County.
Blue Dyer Distilling uses the same traditional techniques that have been in the owner's family for over 100 years. Each bottle of micro-distilled rum is made by hand, ensuring every sip is smooth and bold. Though new to the Maryland spirits scene, opening its doors in July of 2016, Blue Dyer has already started racking up awards. In 2017 it was honored with the silver medal at the American Distilling Institute's Annual Judging of Craft Spirits.
I always encourage those who are of age to visit wineries and distilleries! You can learn so much and feel cultured at the same time. Plus all of your friends will be jealous of your awesome adventures!
